HLR V DEATH IN A CAN
Life in the fast lane:: alcoholic energy drinks and related beverages.

With the vastly rising popularity of the infamous "Four Lokos" amongst college kids and the ever more news report of some kid being diagnosed with alcohol poisoning or dying leaves us as consumers in a very sticky situation. The FDA has begun to pull beverages such as "Four Lokos" and their counterparts off the shelves leaving consumers in the dark about their potentially adverse effects on our bodies.
Here's the story in a nutshell. Energy drinks are loaded with caffeine, guarana, ginseng and lots of sugar. Their goal is to keep you wired and prevent you from falling asleep. Couple that with a shot of vodka (or even two) and you'll feel as if you're floating on air. The mix of these stimulants is nothing new. Irish Coffee is nothing more than Caffeine and rum and Red Bull and Hennessy is nothing but a more expensive version of Four Lokos.
I would be lying if I told you these caffeinated Malt Bevarges didn't have any adverse effects on our body. They increase heart rate, create a false sense of being sober which can impair your judgement. Usually alcohol makes you fall asleep so when you have caffeine you don't feel sleepy or drunk. Too much of anything is always bad for you.
The moral of the story is be smart. Use your brain. If you're drinking this stuff, you're probably drunk. Don't drive. If you can feel your heart beat through your chest, have a glass of water not another drink. If you see someone passed out don't be scared to call 911.
Be safe and savvy this holiday season!
