HLR Health, Life and Relationships Volume II

A recent trip to the hospital prompted me to write this post.

Ask any 21 year old female what's the top 5 things she values most and more likely than not, the answers will be something along the lines of music, clothing/shipping, phone, ipod, money or being successful. In a constant struggle to maintain who we want to be, we neglect to take care of our bare being. We live in such a fast paced world that we never have time to sit back and smell the smog, (or the roses depending on where you live at). Yes, your credit card bill is important to pay and yes, Gucci just dropped their fall collection so you have to swing by. But what about you, yourself and your well being? When was the last time you did something other than work? When was the last time you saw a dentist, GYN, PCP?

There are so many forms of stress to our body that all have different detrimental effects on us. Some effects can be psychological a lot of times if it's psychological, it will definitely translate into the physical realm. You may be worried or concerned about something and not even be aware of the adverse effects your worrying is having on your body. As busybodies, we tend to ignore obvious signs of stress: chest pain, stomach pain, dull and stagnant headaches.

I'm the first one in line to have a good time. I'm also the first to admit that I'm not perfect. There comes a time where the signs are inevitable and become more apparent and obvious. There comes a time when your mind concedes to your body and you agree that something has to be done.

I'm no stranger to random ailments that would plague only the most misfortunate. I had to go to the hospital because I was neglecting to take care of myself. Overworked, underpaid and overstressed is the story of all of our lives. Let not miniscule things take over the entirety of your life. Put your health, body and spirit first. I had a major reality check because I realized that if I'm hospitalized or deceased, there will be no bills to worry about.

I'm not advocating that you quit your job and go awol, but if your chest tightens up whenever you see your bank balances. You got a problem lol. If someone works your nerves and you can see the steam billowing out your ears, you have a problem! If your boyfriend is constantly cheating on you and you find yourself about to kill somebody, you have a problem..

Treat yourself to something nice(and cheap), go to the doctor, visit Brooklyn Botanical Garden on Tuesday it's free. Skip a day of work and head out to the city. Have a sangria on a warm afternoon, find something that makes you happy and releases your mind and do it often!

Very well written and extremely true. I’ve been stressed out lately and having headaches.

I’m going to take your advice and treat myself and relax a little.
