Aids Activism
I used to be an active AIDS/HIV activist before I came to St. Johns. I'm talking about giving out condoms, pins and buttons before I was even having sex *not that I am now. LOL. Two of my family members were afflicted with the virus one of them passed away so it hits close to home. Anyway this weekend I had the opportunity to donate as a project for my Theology class for Lent. I *gave up Margaritas. Here's my receipt. Small thing but it kind of makes you feel a little better about yourself. Clearly that's not the reason I did it. I did it so my ass can graduate from St. Johns. One day I am planning to go back to GMHC maybe planning an event to have all of my homies and I to volunteer and make pussy packs. That would be cool 
I chose AmFar because unlike the UN they deal with issue on local areas as well. They fund testing centers categorized by your zip code you can just pop them in there and they'll show you where you can go for free testing. They ALSO are progressive. Alot of organizations just subsidize medical care for people already afflicted with the viruses while AmFar is actively looking for a cure. Treating the root of the problem is just as significant as treating the problem itself. For more info on AmFar you can go to amfar.org
