If your blog gets sponsored for a giveaway from a company that's really big. That's halfway there to got damn you made it. There seems to be an infinitely decreasing line regarding the legality of these “giveaways” myself and other bloggers are hosting. For clarification and safe guarding, if you are running a giveaway there are some things you might need to know.

Steer clear of companies who ask you not to forward participants to their social media pages, e.g. twitter or facebook, or ask you to explicitly state in your giveaway that they have absolutely nothing to do with the giveaway and are justing giving you a product.


This is where it becomes tricky. An tweet for an extra entry is perceived as consideration. Therefore extra entries means you are doing a lottery not a sweepstakes and that is considered illegal. In plain english when you ask participants to like your facebook page, follow you on twitter or tweet a giveaway, that is illegal and can cause potential ramifications.


Why? Asking people to do extra things to enter a giveaway places a monetary value on the entries causing it to be a lottery not a giveaway and a lottery is very illegal. Reason being if more people likes you on facebook, that has a monetary value to you and your site.(Ever notice the rules for all giveaways explicitly states “no purchase necessary to enter/win”). There's a big reason for that. Mizz information talks about a Toyota Sienna contest in her post that requires you to like them in order to be eligible.

I definitely did two giveaways with “extra entries” after doing my research, I decided to clean up the way I did giveaways so that there is no mistaking my practices. My newly founded friend at the five fish helped me clean up the rules after she exposed community giveaways and mommy bloggers who rigged contests. I also got some tips from It's not a Lecture You can definitely see the difference in the way the rules were structured, the last one is more clean cut and it gets to the point.

A box bearing gifts arrived at our headquarters. Excited like a kid on Christmas in an attempt to open the box, I find pears and a newly updated Arbor Mist bottle complete with a new logo and a new  bottle design. Delighted. Twenty minutes in the freezer and it's chill time. As a previous white zinfandel junkie, I'm now a convert. The first sip was divine. The second sip was to grasp the first sip. You can taste the signature Arbor Mist bubbly as soon as it hits your lips. The White Pear Pinot Grigio leaves a pleasant aftertaste of pear that is definitely not overpowering. Zesty, light and fresh are three words that come to mind to describe this refreshing beverage. This Arbor Mist may be marketed as a great drink for summer but the truth is, it's a great drink for anything. I enjoyed mines before taking it down to bed. =). I offered my dear JT a glass and before I knew it, it disappeared. Previously was not a fan of the Arbor Mist, the White Pear Pinot Grigio tickled his fancy ;x.

To my fellow Arbor Mist lovers, if you adore any of the flavors, this will be your FAVORITE one. Also at the price of $3.99, as we all know this is something that can not be beat. In the words of Arbor Mist, I'm definitely "up for anything".
 

        

If your hair is chemically relaxed, you NEED flat iron. When I say a flat iron, I don't mean one of those rinky dink flat irons from CVS, Duane Reade, Rite Aid or local pharmacy. I mean a real flat iron that's going to last and work on YOUR type of hair. I had the opportunity to try the Corioliss Class Pro. So far,  it has saved me about $40 bucks last month. I usually get a wash and set at the salon and a blow out in between perms when my roots get thick and now I just wash my hair myself and use the flat iron to smooth out the roots. The best part about it is, this is not even the BEST flat iron Missiko has but it's the best damn flat iron I've ever used in my life. As soon as you plug it in, it's hot (6 seconds flat) so there's no need to wait for it. It doesn't burn your hair, the temperature of the flat iron adjusts when you use it (you can see the green light going red when it's in use), it gets really hot so there is no need to do the same area twice.

It took me about 20 minutes to straighten my roots which was the shortest process of the whole washing thing. The outside of the flat iron doesn't get to hot, so it's okay to hold the handle to really get your roots straight without burning yourself.

I do have really long hair so you would expect that the 1.5 inch would be too much of a hassle but it's not. The small size also allows me to get to the roots better! For your convenience, they also include a heat mat so that you don't have to wait for your flat iron to cool down if you're on the go!

I'm also interested in buying the wet to dry flat  iron because if that could work on my hair, I would throw away my blow dryers

Size 0, size 0, size 0. While I pull my Naked and Famous, True Religion and Cheap Monday jeans out of my closet, I come to one realization: I am no longer a size zero. Being thicker than a snickers is something that is glorified in the Black community while being tooth pick thin is the norm of the general population. I struggle. Having been skinny since as long as I remember, there is definite issue brewing on both sides of the fence. The battle ensues.

As time passes, I question myself. It's been a whole year since this weight gain, a whole year since I fit into those lovely 24's.. So now I'm wondering, since when did the weight issue become a numbers game? Why am I worried about the size my tag says and not the actually state of my health? You hear about "reports" all the time that says if you're 23 with no kids,5"4 you should be x amount of pounds and that is just simply not the case.

After passing by a fellow bloggers blog noting that a certain someone went and ranted about word play concerning a shirt. I decided to inspect myself. Sure I had been wanting to tone up, not necessarily lose weight. It would be great to fit into those jeans I spent so much money on, but like in business what's the cost-benefit analysis? The issue is prevalent everywhere you turn. It's hard to avoid it. It seems as if every week, IFB's weekly round-up consists of utterly bitter women complaining that someone said something concerning fat or skinny people. Where does this animosity come from? Why is it fat vs. skinny? Why is it always eat more or eat less?

What I realized is that people fail to understand, it does not matter how much you eat or how often you eat that controls your weight. There are other factors to it such as genetics, metabolism, enzyme break down etc. Tyra Banks admitted to devouring burgers and fries throughout her model career and remained skinny through exercising. Does that mean her health was in tip top shape? Not necessarily.

On the other hand Jennifer Hudson started eating healthier to lose weight." J-Hud refuses to say how much weight she's lost or how much she plans to lose because her goal is to be healthier, not skinnier"

Deciding to "eat more" or "eat less" suddenly disappears as the primary issue. Now it's what to eat that will build my metabolism, feed my body the nutrients it deserves and keep my vitals at a healthy rate.

So as I embark on a healthier lifestyle, one thing stands out in the back of my mind. I am not exercising and eating better so I can look good in a bikini, I'm doing it so the next time I run up 5 flights of steps to my apartment I am not winded. I want to feel good and say "damn, maybe I'll do that again" and actually do it again.

As for the fence that I spoke about earlier, I'll still be in the middle. A spectator to the entire thing.

Throughout the duration of my scholarly (lol) career at St. John's I had a professor named Conney Frisk (sp?) who taught art. When I signed up for the class, I figured it would be drawing (which I happen to be good at) and smooth sailing. Little did I know this "Art" course would be more work than any other course I had that semester. CRAZY. Homegirl had us memorizing slides of paintings, the name of the fricking artist and the time they were prevalent. Needless to say I absolutely hated this class, went madddd hard, took a trip to many museums to write these papers and I got a damn A-. BOOOOOOOOOOO.

But  when I saw a new Caravaggio painting I was hype because a. I knew who he was, b. I knew he was from the Baroque period and c. I could identify 2 of his paintings(the musician, boy with a basket of fruit) Although when we studied him I thought he was a little .. on the crazy side because he never painted women unless they were destroying men and he liked painting little boys.. (hmm) Anyway according to various news sources a new painting said to be done by him has come about and has the art world in a frenzy! Although the Washington Post reports that the final verdict on this painting is in, the art officials have really yet to come to a general consensus.
